I trained in Fine Art, first at Bretton Hall College then at the Surrey Institute of Art & Design. I spent a few years working as a conceptual artist before becoming a teacher of art. After many years sharing my love of art with young people and falling in love with clay in the process. I decided to start making again.
I work from a little studio at the back of my house. Mostly making ceramic sculpture. I’ve been a little obsessed with slugs and snails! For me they resemble the fragility of life. Many beautiful or endangered animals get lots of attention but I see the beauty in all living things and feel a connection to those I can see in my garden. I figure if I can encourage people to think differently about slugs, then the rest is an easy save!
Slugs and snails are not for everyone, they are definitely the marmite of the art world! People tend to love them or loath them. I do find that men in particular seem to like them and also children. I am currently trying to force myself to branch out to other creatures but I’m not letting go of the slugs and snails just yet!
