A psychology degree, a habit of people watching and a love of found materials has created the insight for Jackie to create the "Little People".
They came about when a neighbour left some old fence post wire out for the scrap man and she realised that she could use it to work 3 dimensionally, until that point, she had been using found materials in collage.
The Little People are inspired by the people that she sees but as a materials led artist the starting point is always the found materials; things that she finds whilst out walking or things that she's gifted. The old bits of maps, the tiny pieces of newspaper....they aren't props, they're the beginning of a story.
Jackie uses her 1930s sewing machine "Pearl the Singer" wherever possible, whilst its not practical for all types of fabric, the fact that it, like everything else she works with has its own history, makes it a fitting companion.
