Author: Joy Norman - Mixed Media Artist
I am a mixed-media artist working from my studio in Blaby, Leics. I make framed work, assemblages, (freestanding or wallhanging), and vessels. I aim to create delicate and intriguing decorative pieces of work that appear timeworn and fragile. Combining recycled paper pulps and papers with textile fragments, organic items and found objects, I also use a variety of techniques to achieve the desired result, including casting, inlay, impressing, painting and stitching.
I have always been fascinated by the tactile qualities in the surface and texture of handmade paper. I’m drawn to its imperfections and fragility and have endeavoured for many years to emphasise these qualities in my work.
A deep fascination with fossils and relics is apparent in much of my work. I distress and manipulate many of my creations until they appear reminiscent of archaeological finds or ancient treasures. I am also very much inspired by myths and legends and love creating fantasy creatures, fish and other marine life, with scales, spines and trailing tendrils. I am currently making a series of Treasure Boxes - reworking pre-loved boxes into sumptuous containers for precious objects and memories....
I am happy to supply my work on either a Sale or Return basis, or a Bought Outright basis. My full retail prices range between £15 and £2,000.
