Art to excite your senses
I am Karl Hamilton-Cox a realist artist based in Hereford specialising in painting on leather since 2011 covering many subjects and media.
Why leather? In Hereford we have a Magna Carta and the Mappa Mundi in the Cathedral, both historic relics on leather. The use of leather is unusual, I do it not just because it is different, each hide has its own characteristics that provide unique colours, sizes, aroma and textures that become integral in the artwork I produce. :
-Wildlife art: I paint all wildlife subjects based on customer preferences (on commission) and subjects I enjoy doing (big cats / Elephants). These are on leather and prove very popular. The leather used is usually textured to give a slightly 3D effect.
-Portraiture: Very smooth leather gives a texture that cannot be replicated on paper - leather after all is skin.
-Vehicle art: Either aircraft or cars on jackets or occasionally painted in acrylics or oils on panel.
-Leather jacket art: The majority of my commission work is for custom leather jacket art. Subjects range from rock roll, bike, aviation to sci-fi and other lifestyle genres.
-Fashion industry: I support several UK-based designers in providing custom leather art on their products, either as concept/launch one-offs or limited runs on set designs.
I participate in exhibitions and lifestyle events selling original art and promoting my portfolio. I do a wide range of sizes of artwork - see my website www.artistkarl.com shop for details. My website for leather jacket art is www.artonleather.co.uk .
