Nettie Birch -nbNg
Description
nbNg is the work of metalsmith and jeweller, Nettie Birch who started her practice full time after being made redundant. She uses fold-forming to make tablewares and items for the home, and the far older skill of hand-raising to create vessels, in silver, pewter and copper, exploring it’s wide-ranging patination possibilities. She also makes a small range of foldformed jewellery in silver and copper.
Nettie produces a range of limited edition or one off metal pieces. Her hand raised work is often elegant with simple forms however her fold-forming has a much more flowing organic look and feel. Her copper pieces often feature a coloured, patination element and these always have a sealant added to retain the colour.
Nettie’s jewellery appears inspired by nature, a consequence of the foldform technique used in it’s making. Flower and leaf forms feature strongly in her range. Nettie also adds touches of oxidisation and gold plating to add interest to pieces. Nettie’s jewellery has been stocked for a number of years by Blackwell House in the Lake District and the British Museum
