Sarah Hill Glass
Description
Born near Bath, I attained a BA Honours degree in Three-Dimensional Design in 1986 from Bristol Polytechnic. Having worked in exhibition design, graphics and marketing in an employed and self-employed basis for nearly 20 years, I returned to my roots in 2004 to follow 3-D design.
After studying Applied Arts at NEWI, North Wales I started my ‘second career’ in glass, starting my business in 2005.
Initially, I developed my glass jewellery attending various trade shows to supply shops and galleries, plus selling directly as shows and markets.
The glass landscapes have been a long time in the waiting, working on the technique for several years. They are now a major part of the business – creating painterly fused glass pictures inspired by land, sea and sky. Years experiencing the weather-beaten Welsh coastline and Shropshire Border country has been a vital influence to these one-off landscapes!
I mix glass in its many forms, working in layers, seeking out chemical reactions. Once heated, the pictures are reworked until the final image is revealed – a mix of the accidental and the deliberate.
