Joy Norman – Mixed Media Artist
Mixed Media Artist producing framed work, assemblages and vessels
I am a mixed-media artist producing framed work, assemblages and vessels from my attic studio in Blaby, Leicestershire.
I have always been fascinated by the tactile qualities in the surface and texture of handmade paper. I’m drawn to its imperfections and fragility and have endeavoured for many years to emphasise these qualities in my work. Combining the diverse qualities of pulps and papers with textile fragments, organic items and found objects I then employ many techniques to achieve the desired result, including impressing, inlay, casting, painting and stitching
A deep fascination with fossils and relics is apparent in much of my work. I distress and manipulate many of my creations until they appear reminiscent of archaeological finds or ancient treasures. I am also very much inspired by myths and legends and love creating fantasy creatures, fish and other marine life, with scales, spines and trailing tendrils.
I'm currently working on Miss Clara Knight's Curious Collections: a fictional character about whom I have so far written two journal-style stories and created two bodies of work. I will continue to add to these, as well as developing a range of Treasure Boxes.
I am happy to supply my work on either a Sale or Return basis, or a Bought Outright basis. My full retail prices range between £15 and £2,000. My work mostly consists of small series' of one-offs, so I do not do wholesale.
